Cooked rice (or uncooked rice): 1 cup cooked (or 1/2 cup uncooked)

Water or broth: 2–3 cups

Turmeric: 1/2 teaspoon

Garlic (optional): 1 clove, minced

Ginger (optional): 1 teaspoon, grated

Salt: to taste

Black pepper: pinch

Olive oil or butter: 1 teaspoon

Lemon (optional): small squeeze

Fresh herbs (optional): for topping

  1. In a pot, add rice and water or broth.

  2. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer.

  3. Add turmeric, garlic, and ginger (if using).

  4. Stir and let cook for 15–20 minutes, until the mixture becomes soft and porridge-like.

  5. Add more liquid if needed for your desired consistency.

  6. Stir in olive oil or butter.

  7. Season with salt and black pepper.

  8. Finish with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs if desired.

  9. Serve warm.

NOTES

  • Use leftover rice to make this even faster.

  • Add more liquid for a thinner, soup-like texture.

  • Great when you’re feeling tired, under the weather, or just want something gentle.

  • Top with a soft egg or shredded chicken for extra protein.
